John W. Matthews, Jr. (b. April 21, 1940) is a Democratic member of the South Carolina State Senate, representing District 39. He was first elected to the chamber in 1984. Matthews served in the South Carolina House of Representatives from 1975 to 1984.
Matthews attended South Carolina State College. He went on to attend Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical from 1970 to 1971. In 1972 he attended Lincoln Electrical Institute. Matthews used to be a farmer. Matthews is a retired Elementary School Principal. He worked as a businessman.

C. Bradley "Brad" Hutto (b. August 6, 1957) is a Democratic member of the South Carolina State Senate, representing District 40. He was first elected to the chamber in 1996.
Hutto earned his B.A. from the University of South Carolina in 1978. He went on to receive his J.D. from the University of Georgetown, Law Center, in 1981. Hutto has worked as an attorney for Williams and Williams since 1982.

Jerry N. Govan, Jr. (b. March 17, 1958) is a Democratic member of the South Carolina House of Representatives, representing District 95. He was first elected to the chamber in 1992.
Govan earned his B.A. from South Carolina State University in 1982. He went on to pursue graduate studies at the University of South Carolina. Govan was a Personnel Specialist in the Department of the Navy from 1979 to 1980. In 1984, he worked as a Recruiting Officer for the South Carolina Department of Health & Environmental Control. He then worked as Assistant to the Director of Personnel at South Carolina University from 1984 to 1985. From 1985 to 1986, he worked as Director of the Small Business Development Center for South Carolina State University. Govan then worked for the 1st Judicial Circuit's Pre-Trial Intervention Program as a Coordinator from 1989 to 1990. He has worked as Primary Drug Prevention Consultant since 1990.

Russell L. Ott is a Democratic member of the South Carolina House of Representatives, representing District 93. He was first elected to the chamber in a special election on October 29, 2013.
Elections for all 124 seats in the South Carolina House of Representatives will take place in 2014. A primary election took place on June 10, 2014. The general election will be held on November 4, 2014. The signature-filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was March 30, 2014. Incumbent Russell L. Ott was unopposed in the Democratic primary. Ott is unopposed in the general election.
Ott won election in a special election for South Carolina House of Representatives District 93. The seat was vacant following Rep. Harry Ott, Jr.'s (D) resignation to work as the state director for the Farm Service Agency in the federal government. Ott defeated Charles H. Gilda Cobb-Hunter (b. November 5, 1952) is a Democratic member of the South Carolina House of Representatives, representing District 66. She was first elected to the chamber in 1992. From 1997 to 2000, she served as State House Minority Leader.
Hunter earned her B.S. from Florida A & M University in 1973. She went on to receive her M.A. from Florida State University in 1978. She then earned her LISW from the South Carolina Board of Social Work Examiners in 1990. Hunter was a Teacher at Belleville Middle School in 1978. In 1979, she worked as an Instructor at South Carolina State University. She then worked as a Caseworker for the Orangeburg Department of Social Services from 1979 to 1984. She has been Executive Director of CASA Family Services since 1985. She currently works as a Social Work Administrator.
